Virtual Emotions Workshop in partnership with ISCSLP 2006
14 – 16 December 2006

The three-day event “Human emotions in voice and the body: Approaches from the affective sciences and virtual reality”, organized by the Swiss House Singapore and the Swiss Centre (NCCR) for Affective Sciences, will be held in conjunction with the 5th International Symposium on Chinese Spoken Language Processing (ISCSLP 2006), organized by the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) and the Chinese and Oriental Languages Information Processing Society (COLIPS).

The ISCSLP is the world’s largest and most comprehensive technical conference focused on Chinese spoken language processing and its applications and takes place every two years, this time in Singapore from 13-16 December 2006. Having both events collocated and overlapping will allow the participating scientists and speakers to attend the two symposia in parallel and therewith facilitate the knowledge exchange as well as the establishment of new networks.

The virtual emotions workshop will consist of panel and round table discussions with participation from leading scientists from Singapore and Switzerland. The first day will be dedicated to the theme “Emotions, Brains, Speech and Computers” and will provide an overview of current work on emotion in psychology and neuroscience and its implications for human-machine interfaces. The theme of the second day “Human Emotion in Virtual Reality” will cover the practical application of work in affective sciences to problems of three-dimensional representation in virtual reality as well as the future development of human-machine interactions.

An interactive exhibition will showcase recent practical work of Swiss and Singaporean researchers and allow the visitors to try some applications out themselves. To round up the event, cultural evening programmes will focus on emotional expression and intercultural issues in theatre and music.
