Program Details:
Description:
After a successful first edition of the Singapore International Energy Week in 2008 which attracted over 40 companies and public organisations with 2500 participants, the Singapore Energy Market Authority is embarking on the second edition in November 2009 whilst focusing on the key theme “Clean Energy: Sustainable Solutions for Urban Cities”.

The exhibition and conferences within Clean Energy Expo Asia is aiming at addressing experts in the area of renewable and biomass energy, energy efficiency and sustainable development. On this occasion, a unique platform for the sourcing and trading of clean energy technologies, services and financing will be created.

swissnex Singapore will set up a Swiss booth under the umbrella of the European Pavilion which is organised by EuroCham Singapore. The following institutes will present their energy related innovative technologies:

The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ) will showcase The Hybrid-Pneumatic Engine System which uses compressed air as energy buffer and allows for substantial downsizing of engines. Both measures lead to an increased efficiency. Hybrid pneumatic vehicles are expected to be much cheaper than hybrid electric vehicles since no batteries or electric motors are needed.

The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) will promote the unique benefits of the Swiss Experiment, an interdisciplinary field site of unprecedented proportions set up in Davos, which are expected to lead to improvements in predicting extreme events, assessing accuracy of predictions as function of available data, assessing the earthquake hazard potential as well as monitoring environmental change and documenting environmental quality.

The Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (EMPA) will inform about their energy related activities. EMPA seeks to elaborate a scientific basis in order to sustainably secure the future energy demand by creative technical solutions. Regarding this goal the EMPA is dealing with challenges like the conversion of solar energy into electricity from energy carriers to work and heat.

The TOPtoTOP Global Climate Expedition will also be present at the Swiss booth. The founder of the expedition, adventurer Dario Schwoerer, will give a presentation about this initiative, which aims to create awareness among the younger generation worldwide and showcases opportunities to improve living standards by using sustainable technologies.

Within a broader context swissnex Singapore will present energy related research and studying opportunities in Switzerland at the Asian Youth Energy Summit 2009 Exhibition and Career Fair on September 18 at the Shaw Foundation. The conference, focusing on "Opportunities, Policies and Solutions for Cleantech Asia", will be attended by students and young professionals from Singapore and the region. In collaboration with their French and German counterparts, swissnex Singapore will join a core group of privately operated companies offering a broad range of career and research perspectives.
