Program Details:
Description:
Capturing pictures in different biospheres of under water worlds and landscapes, the element of water was always in the center of Michel Roggo's attention.

As a well-traveled artist, his collection contains photographs, which have been taken all over the world: In the flooded rainforests in the Amazon, in Rocky Mountain rivers with millions of salmons and deep canyons, in the valleys of the south Alps, in Island and in underwater caves in Croatia.

In the upcoming exhibition during the Singapore International Water Week 2010, the award winning Michel Roggo will present selected work of his collection. As Mr. Roggo says, “water is life”. His intention is, through the power of expression and through showing the tremendous beauty and uniqueness of the various biospheres in freshwater, to strengthen the willingness to save the environment.

In taking pictures, Mr. Roggo is not like any usual photographer, trying to capture the right moment. Rivers are embodying a fluent constant, the in flux - the never ending flowing. In being so, the pictures are capturing the flow of the water within different lights, colors and forms. Mr. Roggo is taking the pictures from the shore, using self developed systems with self capturing methods.

Additionally to the photographs of the landscapes under water, there will also be shown several pictures featuring fishes, as representatives for the under water life forms, which can exist in freshwater and be seen as an economic factor for human beings. Among these pictures are artworks from fishes and plants in the Amazon, salmons in the North American Pacific Ocean as well as rare salmons from the Atlantic Ocean in the rivers of Québec.

Michel Roggo is very successful in connecting music with photography. At the Arts House, he will present astonishing musical-visual installations similarly to his show at the Château de Gruyères in January 2009.

The Venue of the exhibition, The Arts House , is an impressive building, built in 1827, where it was used as Singapore’s first Court House and former Parliament House. The multi-disciplinary Arts center is very famous for its diverse mix of contemporary art exhibitions.
